Landscape attributes:

Protected Landscape Area Blanský les is located in South Bohemia, in the Šumava Mountains foothills, north of the town Český Krumlov. The highest peak is the dominant Kleť Mountain (altitude 1084 m). The Vltava River is one of the most important flows here (even though it flows along the PLA’s border) because it drains almost the whole PLA’s area. The Křemžský Stream flows through the central part of PLA, the Polečnice and Chvalšinský Stream are the main streams in the southern parts of the area. The predominant  bedrock of the area is granulite, only the southern part is constituted mainly of crystalline limestone together with erlans and amphibolites. An irregular seam of serpentinite stretches along the central part  of Blanský les PLA. More than one half of the PLA’s area is covered by forests, the most important of which are mixed submountaneous forests dominated by beech. We can find them on the north-eastern slopes of Kleť Mountain and on the hills Bulový and Vysoká Běta. The flora of the serpentinites in the central part of PLA (near the town of Křemže) is very specific to the area and is partly formed by relict pine forests. The thermophilous and calciphilic flora in the vicinity of Český Krumlov is remarkable and very significant.

The most precious parts of the PLA landscape are parts of small-scale protected areas. Apart from natural attractions there are many historical monuments. The Cistercian monastery in Zlatá Koruna and the ruins of the Rožmberk castle known as Dívčí Kámen (Girls’ Rock) are remarkable. Because of its beautiful and conserved landscape, it is a valuable place of recreation.
